7 ways to upgrade your romantic night at home
When Enhanced Community Quarantine was put in place, our home has no longer become just a living space to eat, sleep, and unwind. It has transformed into our home office, online classroom, and private gym—for those who are lucky to have enough space. For those living with partners, the usual date night has also moved indoors and into own homes. If you’re bored and tired of the usual home cooked dinner and a movie, here are a few ideas on how you can spice up date night at home.
1. Make it romantic with candles and flowers
Part of the appeal of dining out and what makes it so magical are the starched white table linens and flickering candlelight. Why don’t you try recreating the mood by doing the same at home? You can also add an elegant touch to your table by having a vase of nicely arranged flowers as your table’s centerpiece. Top things off with a perfect playlist to match the ambience.
2. Flatter the palate with new tastes and flavors
Can you think of anything more romantic than awakening your palate with new flavors and sharing that experience with your partner? Be adventurous and pick up a couple of bottles you’ve never tried before. Remember to progress in your tastings from dry to sweet wines, and to refresh your palate between tastings with water, pretzels or even crackers. Don’t forget that a charcuterie or cheese board is the perfect companion to that sensory feast.
3. Bond over cooking your favorite dish
Let’s go back to the basics: food. Partnering over the stove might be the perfect way to reconnect while relaxing and strengthening your team-building skills as a couple. Cook your favorite dish or challenge yourselves by recreate a restaurant classic.
4. Baking also works wonders
If you happen to have a sweet tooth, baking might provide you with a double benefit. It will engage you and your partner in an activity you probably don’t do often together and will get you to share some delicious treat afterwards.
5. Sing your hearts out and throw a karaoke
How about releasing some endorphins into your relationship by singing to your all-time favorite songs together? Hook up that good old Magic Sing mic or look up the karaoke versions of songs on YouTube and use wireless mic or simply fake it with makeshift mics using a brooms and mops!
6. Transform the living room into a dance floor and hit it!
Do you remember the last time you and your partner danced together? How about throwing it back to when you were teenagers with some retro music to dance off to? Or look up those viral tunes on TikTok and try on some of those new trending moves? Dress the part and get ready for some fun and some romance.
7. Get playful and competitive with game night
Games are a fun and exciting way to spend date night at home. Whether they bring out your competitive side or help you learn to build up cooperative skills together, games are known to be one of the most powerful ways to bond with someone. Card games, two-player board games, charades, or even video games, any of those would do as long as you both enjoy them and are up for the challenge!
